Solar Foods was recognized on April 15, 2026, at the ChemBio Finland event in Helsinki, receiving an award from the Finnish Chemical Society for an innovative circular economy business concept rooted in chemistry.
Founded in 2017, Solar Foods is pioneering a new way to produce protein. Its flagship product, Solein®, is a protein-rich microbial powder created through a fermentation process that uses carbon dioxide, water, and electricity. By decoupling protein production from land use, weather, and climate, this breakthrough enables a low-emission, resource-efficient solution for the food industry. The company is now preparing its first industrial-scale facility, Factory 02, in Lappeenranta. With a planned capacity increase from 160 tons to 6,400 tons annually, the project marks a significant step toward scaling sustainable food production.
